I want to fade dark marks and pigmentation
Even tone, calm skin — treated at the cause.
Pigmentation on skin of colour is most often post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) — dark marks left behind after acne, ingrown hairs, eczema, insect bites or irritation. Melasma, sun damage and hormonal triggers can layer on top. Every plan begins with identifying the type and driver, because the wrong treatment on the wrong pigmentation can make it worse.
Why it happens
Understanding the causes
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) after acne, folliculitis or irritation
Melasma driven by hormones, pregnancy or the contraceptive pill
UV and visible-light exposure (a leading trigger on melanin-rich skin)
Aggressive scrubs, DIY peels or bleaching creams that damage the barrier
Our approach
How Refresh can help
Dr Zama assesses your pigmentation type under proper lighting, treats any active inflammation first (because PIH will keep returning while acne or irritation is unresolved), then layers a doctor-prescribed pigment protocol — safe for African, Indian and mixed-heritage skin — alongside daily broad-spectrum SPF and a tolerable home routine.

Frequently asked
Good to know
Is laser safe for dark marks on Black skin?+
Many lasers are not safe on Fitzpatrick V–VI skin and can trigger more pigmentation. We prefer medical peels, prescription actives and mesotherapy — with laser used selectively and cautiously by the doctor.
How long until my dark marks fade?+
PIH typically softens over 8–12 weeks; melasma is a longer, ongoing management journey. Sunscreen is what protects the progress.
